Els Staal (1959) was born in the Netherlands and studied industrial design at the Arnhem Art Academy. Her work soon won grants from the Netherlands Ministry of Culture, with her furniture designs exhibited at the Amsterdam Stedelijk Museum and her contemporary jewelry at various galleries, including Galerie RA and Marzee. In 1991 she received a Masters Degree in interior architecture from the Pratt Institute in New York. She worked in New York as an interior architect before moving to Paris in 1992, where she continued to design and supervise various interior architecture and exhibition design projects.
